In 2016, a group of women at Shelter formed an employee resource group dedicated to the professional development of women. The Shelter Women's Advocacy Group (SWAG) was created and is now 168 members strong.

SWAG holds educational activities such as Lunch & Learns that give members an opportunity to sharpen their professional skills, provide personal enrichment and network. They have participated in many community activities, in particular those that benefit True North, an organization that provides a safe environment for victims of domestic and sexual violence. True North also provides safe housing for these victims, educates and empowers them, and acts as an advocate for them.

SWAG also holds after-hours social activities, book groups and provides mentoring.

Who can be in SWAG? Any Shelter employee who wants to be involved in a group that:

• Promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion through continual learning.
• Offers programs for working women on the topics of professional development, personal achievement and networking.
• Encourages member participation in all aspects of the corporate organization.
